Week two of the school year! We kick off with another installment of back-to-school tips from teachers for teachers. Today, from Amanda Solarsh, 7th Grade science teacher at Simon Baruch Middle School:
Revamp rules, routines and procedures and rethinking classroom setup to start fresh.
For instance, take a second look at how labs are setup to make sure bumpy transitions are minimized. Create color-coded laminated instructions to make sure more time is spent learning instead of wasting time on confusion.
It’s good to look at planned activities at the start of the school year so you have a fresh perspective. It’s best to spend time setting up the room and looking at past activities before the demands of the school year, planning different classroom set ups for different purposes (partner work, small group, etc.)
